Pashley

When the industrial revolution moved it’s factories from England to China, nearly all the classic English bike companies moved with it – except Pashley. Pashley is almost a medieval guild in terms of how it operates. There is no assembly line. There is, instead, a tightly bound community of expert knowledge: masters and apprentices who continue to perfect one of the world’s oldest bicycles. Very few large companies still braze frames, an expensive process that requires three times more cost, skill, and expense than a welded frame.

For years Pashley produced the classic city bike, verging somewhat to re-interpret the California beach cruiser and developing a series of workbikes for Royal Mail. But, in the past years there has been a renewed focus and energy on the classic city bikes, some fresh colours on the Sonnet series and some exciting bikes like the Guv’nor. This year Pashley has merged with Alex Moulton in the interest of increasing the exposure of what is certainly one of the worlds most evolved bicycles.  The Pashley is a romantic product, perhaps even the world’s first luxury bicycle. Very little has changed at Pashley for 2009, and we view that as a good thing!
